I volunteered to play the piano at church.
Trained to read full scores, I rather write out simple accompaniments for the songs than to improvise while I play.  Quickly I realized how time-consuming it is!  I'm always grateful to people who upload their written accompaniments to benefit people who can't improvise like me, and all this is done for free.  As grateful as programmers who freely contribute their open-source code.  Without them, my PhD would not have existed.

Here are links to Chinese Christian music scores in MuseScore format (.mscz), and a pdf version, which are in my Google Drive.  You can't directly search shared files in Google Drive but you can search links to them so here they are:

EXODUS CRY PRAYER WATCH

Intercession is the central methodology on which Exodus Cry was established in 2007. In the beginning of 2011 the Lord began to sound a trumpet in our spirit to reemphasize prayer as our central means of pursuing justice.  Our response to the Lord’s leading in this has resulted in the development of “The Exodus Cry Prayer Watch.”

The Exodus Cry Prayer Watch (ECPW) embodies our effort to pursue breakthrough, through prayer.  Our hearts burn to see a justice movement raised up that is rooted and grounded in fasting and prayer. The ECPW is a network of prayer meetings around the world strategically focused on abolishing slavery.

Why prayer?

For justice – God promised to release justice in response to day and night prayer.
And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily…” Luke 18:7-8

Anyone can pray – Our hope is that through the simple means of prayer we can grow an organic movement that spreads across the earth in which day and night prayer for the ending of human trafficking and slavery would emerge from every city on the earth.
A focused network – The combined, corporate, targeted prayers of saints around the world will produce a mighty prayer cannon to assault the powers of darkness that hover over our cities and enslave our women and children.
Beholding and becoming – As we posture our hearts to gaze upon Jesus in prayer, our hearts are dynamically connected to His heart.  This is where we receive the divine empowering we need to walk out our prayers in tangible ways as we pursue God’s vision of setting the captives free and healing the brokenhearted (Isa. 61:1)
(...)
------------
We need to pray more
until our prayers can be heard above day and night.
Will you join?

pieces

oh
I'm trying to put together all the things I've seen
How do they fit together sanely?
I pray for the lost of a precious brother in Nepal, and all the souls that will change because of this news.
I then upload png's of black.
I then...went out for lunch?
Then I practised piano for tomorrow's fellowship.
Then I figured something at the command line.
Then dinner and a walk afterwards.  There we talked of our struggles and joked...and thought about what we will face tomorrow.
Now I'm listening to Gungor.
so much to do for one day!

I feel that my emotions are oddly detached....but I have to concentrate on what I do at each moment.
Actually, I'd like to mourn
for a while longer.

upside down (michael gungor)
upside down upside down this world is upside down do you see do you see us do you hear us make it right make it right let the sun rise

What am I doing right?
I've asked myself this question over and over.
...
Still I go back to You, to find the answer in You.
I remember,
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly[a] with your God."
(Micah 6:8)

oh

But there must be reasons why things are still moving forward in time
For that ultimate ending that many have longed for
for generations before and perhaps generations to come.
There must be good reasons why our plans are superceded
and there is enough evidence to believe
for the path amidst the chaos is not easily seen.
Let us not wander off.
A long way, a long way, a long way off.

363 days into my PhD studies

We need to enter the spiritual warfare and pray for pure water!
------
Very briefly, I haven't posted in about a year when I thought I could keep posting once a month because I've been too busy reading other's technical blogs, and more often bioinformatics or *nix forums, and less often papers :P
Two major changes in the past year are more bioinformatics and more prayer. Less time-filling stuff such as listening to music (even Gungor! but I miss it so much)

landing

step.

You know, it takes courage to start anew.
In this case moving from jjmmii.xanga.com to here..
Hi! If you come across this very first entry on blogger, I suppose you knew me from the era of xanga! :D
Nice to see you here again, my friend.
In case I'm wrong...welcome!  You have met me from this moment on.  I sincerely hope you don't feel that reading my blogs is a waste of time...in fact, I make an effort to keep them concise while exercising my English vocabulary at the same time...I don't type linguistic English very often at work, except when sending emails, but I do leave a ton of fingerprints on the keyboard, and hope to leave quadrillions more in the future =]

I didn't decide to switch from xanga just because its labelled as outdated. Not being user-friendly isn't the main problem either.

because I deliberately coincide this opening of my new site with the beginning of my postgraduate study. yay!!  although two months have passed since.  hehe, been keeping myself busy...busy learning Perl and Ubuntu and starting my career.  And of course trying to maintain spare time to keep my old self intact.

(I am obviously not as fluent at English as I suppose most of you are here, so please bear with me)

Almost forgot to tell you that my desk is in the desk area of a lab, somewhere in Hong Kong.

My field of study is bioinformatics, but I'm not on the side of algorithm development, at least not in the near future.  I can foresee that this year I will be writing short scripts and familiarizing with the dozens of available bioinformatics programs already published and freely available.

But I am fully aware that while I should put my studies in high priority,  I also have other things on my mind that I'd like to share with my friends here.  Don't you sometimes feel that some things are better written than spoken?  And other times, I wanna (ahem, Linux terminology) force-share a meaningful song with you.  At yet other days, I will record snapshots of my life, which are more than likely imperfections.  See what I can make of it =]  I hope to stand strong in believing that at the very end of the earthly part of my everlasting life, I will complete the hugeee tapestry that my Lord has guided me throughout, and that I will be able to regard it from the other side (the *front* side) as a marvellous piece of artwork.

So hopefully you'll stay and listen =]
